Happy New Year from Ocean Eyes Swim <3

2022 was weird, wasn't it? The first year after the pandemic began to calm down (a bit) feels like a bit of a write-off, at least that's how it felt for me while we all re-learned not to hoard toilet paper and dried pasta goods (I'm kiddinggggg...kind of).

Jokes aside, 2022 was a bit of a teacher for me. I began wrapping up my final year of uni which inevitably guided me toward a solidified focal point within my business.
I began learning about the male gaze and its influence over traditional media. Think about every time you saw an ad that featured a woman - I'll bet it was sexual in some degree. Alas, the male gaze.

Digging deeper, I became blithely aware of how misrepresented we as women really are in traditional media. And for just how long we've been expected to adhere to unrealistic and unattainable standards of beauty in order to be socially accepted...
No matter how hard we try, we will never ever be able to look like that retouched and edited picture of Kim K (and ew, who would want that).

I also became blithely aware of the power of my platform. Sure, I make and sell swimwear but I also have a voice that exists within the same realm of that traditional media that has forced women to compete with false representations of themselves and played on, monetised, and took advantage of the insecurities within us that those same fake representations caused.

 So here I sit on New Year's Eve, a bunch of new lessons under my belt and a loaded gun (the war analogy intentional as we women fight yet again for our voices) of new ideas and brand missions for Ocean Eyes Swim.

Ocean Eyes Swim was founded on a mission to embody female strength and empowerment through her swimwear.

Ocean Eyes Swim is FOR women by a woman. To reveal the strength, soul, and wisdom we embody. We are community, inclusion, and the essence of every woman, everywhere.

We are more than our bodies, our appearance- what is on the outside is a surface layer.
Look into the Ocean Eyes of any woman and you'll see a depth undiscovered. Or once ignored.

Ocean Eyes Swim believes in raw and natural beauty. Real bodies, no models, no filters, no editing, no touch-ups.

We as women have had to compete for far too long with false representations of us in traditional media. As such, no single image used within this brand has been edited in any way.

All the faces of Ocean Eyes Swim are real women from the community who have volunteered and dedicated their time to showcase who women are in real life.

Together we aim to tear down false female ideals and unattainable beauty standards that society has force-fed women for decades.
