Bokinii was born on South Australia's coastline with a sewing machine, a love of swimwear and a frustration with seeing the same silhouettes repeated over and over again.
Today, the philosophy remains simple:
Create fewer pieces, with greater purpose.
Every Bokinii collection is designed in Australia and produced in small batches.
That means we aren't trying to fill a warehouse with thousands of bikinis.
We're making considered quantities.
It allows us to focus on the design.
The construction.
The fabric.
The finishing.
And the details that make a piece feel like Bokinii.
Small batch means limited
When something is mass produced, scarcity isn't really part of the equation.
If something sells out, another production run can simply be ordered.
That's not how Bokinii works.
Our collections are intentionally limited.
When a print or collection reaches the end of its production, it doesn't automatically return.
That means the bikini you buy becomes part of a particular moment in the brand's story.
And that's something we love about small-batch fashion.
You're not just buying an item.
You're buying into its story.
Handmade doesn't mean imperfect
There's sometimes a misconception that handmade means homemade or less refined.
We see it differently.
Handmade means someone actually handled the garment.
Someone cut the fabric.
Someone stitched the seams.
Someone checked the construction.
Someone cared about how it looked when it left the studio.
It creates a relationship between the maker and the piece that simply doesn't exist when something is produced anonymously by the thousands.
Why this matters for sustainability
We don't believe sustainability should simply be a marketing word printed on a swing tag.
One of the biggest problems with fashion is overproduction.
Making enormous quantities of products before knowing whether they're actually going to be wanted creates waste.
Bokinii's small-batch approach is one way we can work against that model.
We produce intentionally.
We create limited collections.
We don't believe every style needs to exist forever.
And we would rather sell out of something than create mountains of excess stock just to make sure every size and colour is permanently available.
It's slower.
It's harder.
