The artist formerly known as Ocean Eyes Swim

Hello mermaids, Bo here.

I'm big on evolving. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I like to level up like it was going out of fashion!

It's true, I constantly seek improvement but it's motivated by my belief that no one should go through life not living on their terms. I choose to level up because I envision a way of living and it does not include being chained to a desk, addicted and dependent on someone else to give me a salary. I have a deep belief that if human beings have to contribute to the capitalist, profit driven society that none of us asked to be born into, it can be done in a manner that brings you joy and fulfillment.

If working for someone else is your thing and you find joy there, go for your life but I want to go through mine doing things that inspire me, satisfies all of my creative urges and helps people in some way and I have found it within this brand.

Creating swimwear that you love and feel comfortable in means more to me than I could possibly find words for.
The strongest vision I have is continuing to grow this community of women that is no longer afraid of swimwear and army-ing up with you all to eliminate the societal belief that you have to look a certain way before you're allowed to wear something cute to the beach.
Not about it. Again, that's consumer driven propaganda forced down our throats in an attempt to make us believe that there is something wrong with us that needs fixing and then buy the magical product that will fix it. You are perfection just as you are.
My vision for Bokinii drives me, and I will keep going until my little thing, is a big thing. I've got my community of all of you that and your (sometimes overwhelming) belief in what I'm doing that keeps me going.

2023 and 2024 are going to be the biggest years yet and I cannot wait to celebrate it with my favourite girls (dats you) <3.

This year has marked the first of many things for my business:

  • It is the first year I've introduced a custom print to the range. Formerly, I was sourcing fabric from retailers which was fun but limiting. Plus, a lot of it was designer, remnant stock so I was not the first to use it. This year I introduced the Island Girl print which IS exclusive to my brand, and it can't be found anywhere else. This is something I will continue to do every season!

PS: Island Girl is launching next week...I haven't announced this on socials yet so if you're here and reading this, ya welcome ;) Sign up at any Island Girl listing to be notified by email the second it drops!

  • It is the first year I've had a strategised marketing plan and took my business seriously. The last few years, I've concentrated on making pretty things and putting them out into the world and if it sold, cool - if not, oh well.
Not this year. The kind of level up I want requires a game plan if you've noticed a change in the waters (and some of you have), you know why.

  • For the first time, I sat down with myself and seriously evaluated my goals, missions and strategies for this business. I questioned my whys and what I could do that makes this brand better for YOU.
Among all of the swimwear brands operational in this country, I want mine to stand out because the entirety of its existence is a passion project. This led me to the name. I gave Ocean Eyes Swim its name because it felt reflective of the missions at the time, seeing the world through Ocean Eyes.
While that still rings with an element of truth, it wasn't named from the depths of my heart and lately, my realisation that the human condition is a limited one and EVEYTHING should be done from the heart, otherwise what's the point?
And so since this brand is a result of my love for fashion, the ocean and takes up a large chunk of my mental space, I felt the name should reflect that.

And so, I proudly present the renaming of Ocean Eyes Swim to Bokinii, a combination of my name and my favourite wearable connection to the ocean!

Nothing else has changed, it is business as usual with a new name and web address but that's it. My mission, goals and values remain exactly as they were.

Let's wrap it up here for the moment, we are 2 weeks away from launch date and I've got samples and photoshoots to arrange with you girls!

Don't forget to sign up on any page of the website to not only be informed when Island Girl drops but to be added to our VIP list and give you exclusive first access to the range BEFORE it's official release date...!
