Softness Is Not Weakness: The Woman Behind Obsidian

For a long time, women have been told contradictory things.

Be strong.

But not intimidating.

Be feminine.

But don't be too delicate.

Be confident.

But don't take up too much space.

Be sexy.

But not too sexy.

Be independent.

But don't become difficult.

It's exhausting.

And somewhere along the way, we started treating femininity and strength like they were opposites.

They're not.

You can be both

That idea sits at the heart of Obsidian.

The collection is black.

It's dark.

It's strong.

But it's also deeply feminine.

There are curves.

Softness.

Movement.

Skin.

Gold.

Details that aren't afraid to be beautiful.

Because strength doesn't require us to abandon the softer parts of ourselves.

You can be powerful and romantic.

You can be ambitious and gentle.

You can be fierce and incredibly feminine.

You can have survived difficult things and still choose beauty.

Obsidian isn't about becoming harder

The stone that inspired the collection is formed through fire.

But the message isn't:

Become harder.

It's:

Discover what was already there.

There are moments in life that change us.

Some are beautiful.

Some are painful.

Some completely destroy the version of ourselves we thought we'd be forever.

And then, somehow, we rebuild.

Different.

Hopefully wiser.

Maybe softer in some ways.

Stronger in others.

Obsidian represents that process.

Not perfection.

Transformation.

The woman wearing it is the story

That's why we didn't want Obsidian to be about a particular body type or a particular kind of woman.

There isn't one version of confidence.

Confidence can be walking into a room knowing exactly who you are.

It can be wearing something you've always been too nervous to wear.

It can be learning to love your body after years of criticising it.

It can be taking yourself on holiday.

It can be leaving something behind.

It can be starting again.

It can be absolutely nothing dramatic at all.

Sometimes confidence is simply waking up and deciding you're no longer interested in making yourself smaller.

Maybe that's why black feels so powerful.

It doesn't tell you who to be.

It gives you somewhere to stand.

And perhaps that's what we want Obsidian to become.

Not a costume.

Not armour.

Not something you wear to become a different woman.

Something you put on and remember that you already are her.

Strong.

Feminine.

Resilient.

Beautiful.

Entirely yourself.

She is Obsidian.

And she was never waiting to become powerful.
